Achmelvich lies three miles to the north-west of the village of Lochinver. There are
a small number of houses scattered about the area but when people mention Achmelvich they are usually referring
to the award winning beach with its clean blue waters and white sands.
This is an ideal spot for bathing and water sports. Wildlife enthusiasts may be lucky enough to spot the dolphins
and whales that often frequent these waters.
Achmelvich is reached by a narrow, twisting single-track road. There is a large car park, public toilets and a
small hut for tourist information. There is a camp site and caravan park. As well as providing self catering
accommodation in static caravans, there are spaces for touring caravans and tents.
Near the car park you will also find Achmelvich Youth Hostel. At one time this was a school house and cottage
but it has been converted into a 36 bed hostel offering rooms of different sizes including a family room.
